Comparing the Genesis GV80 vs BMW X5
Drivers in Plantation who want to make the leap into a luxury SUV this year will want to check out the 2021 Genesis GV80. This brand-new, first-generation model sets a new bar for luxury, so you should expect some great things, especially when it comes to standard infotainment and safety features.
But how does it stack up against the competition? How do other luxury vehicles compare? Let's take a look at the popular BMW X5 and see how the GV80 compares with it.
Genesis GV80 vs BMW X5: Powertrain Options
The new GV80 is powered by a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that can be equipped with RWD (which is standard) or AWD. There is also an option for a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine that can be equipped on every trim level. Also note that the top two trim levels with the V6 equipped get third-row seating. Otherwise, the GV80 seats five.
The BMW X5 has quite a few options too, but you might feel a bit overwhelmed looking at the list. The sDrive40i (which is RWD) and xDrive40i (which is AWD) have a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that puts out 335 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. Other options include a 4.4-liter V8 matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission that comes on all trims.
Genesis GV80 vs BMW X5: Interior
The GV80's interior is totally next-generation. You get plenty of plush quilted leather on the seats, and the front seats have standard heating. There are a ton of USB ports to be found, and the rear has plenty of charge-only ports. The configurable ambient lighting looks nice, and the UFO-esque two-spoke steering wheel is definitely cool. You also get some neat 3D effects on the gauge cluster, as it utilizes sensors in order to track your eyes while driving. This gives a better depth illusion.
The BMW X5 has an optional air suspension that is smooth, but you will feel harder impacts. This is not typical for a luxury SUV. The front seats offer a good amount of support, but the rear seats feel flat over longer distances. The controls up front can be obnoxious and confusing. Also, visibility is limited due to the way the windows and door frames are built. The GV80 has much better visibility all around.

Genesis GV80 vs BMW X5: Technology
Driving can be difficult when traffic gets congested, so having the right technology can help keep you safe and entertained. The GV80 has a tremendous number of standard features, even for a luxury SUV. You get a 14.5-inch touchscreen with a controller in the center console right near the shift knob. Handwriting recognition comes equipped, and you also get a navigation overlay that has augmented reality.
What's more, you get advanced driver aids like adaptive cruise control, a blind spot monitoring system, forward collision mitigation with automatic emergency braking, and a drowsy driver monitor.
The BMW X5 has a lot of similar technology, but Android Autoâ„¢ is noticeably missing from the line-up. This is a smartphone app integration feature that comes standard on most vehicles these days. The controls for the technology features feel a bit restricted, although the advanced driver aids do work well.
